Chris,

Its a little bit about both. From every experience I have had on various bikes if you are travleing over 60mph at a constant speed you are going to get a lot of wind noise.

It also depends on your helmet and the size of your windscreen. I have Arai helmets and they have rear vents that are supposed to help out with hearing rear noise? They really only make the wind louder.

The good thing about earplugs is that you don't you can still hear the wind and you can still hear the bike, you just miss out on the constant WHOOOOOOOOOOOSHHSHSHS...

Hey Jarrod, I'm curious about your comment about earplugs. I'm a relatively new rider, and I'm wondering about noise levels inside my helmet. I just took a great little ride on 52 from Indy to Brookville Lake, and thought about earplugs for those 3 hours or so.

Is it more about the duration you'd be riding, or the sound intensity of your bike? Thanks for any insight... Great blog!

Great choice! Can't go wrong with the classic lines of the Triumph. The Hyper has great design qualities, but it's hard to beat the Brit-bike nostalgia of the Scrambler. While they'd both turn heads, the Triumph commands respect with a design that still looks good (and cool) after 40 yrs.

You'd better go for it now. After the left finger has been "ringed", it's no longer a fiancé's suggestion but a wife's directive! HA!

Interesting that you consider Ducati too “premium” and that the “lux brand” is not your style, but you'd consider a $10K BMW supermoto (and poo-poo’d the more affordable Suzuki!). If you’re into supermoto, the BMW Xmoto or Suzuki DRZ400 would be an absolute blast. If you want a heavier, multi-cylinder sportbike that’s inspired by SM ergos, the Hyper would be great. If a guy could have a couple bikes, a supermoto and a 1000+cc Twin would be a nice mix (or in your case, an SM and a 1050 3 cyl).
